A Transformation that Brought Sunlight Streaming into the Bathroom
This home in Closter was more than ready for a full modernized bathroom renovation, and we worked with their designer, Dorato Design, to pull it all together. We securely installed a glass shower enclosure, a glass water closet door/panel, and a stunning stack of mirrors on the walls with medicine cabinet doors. As the light beams in through the window, sunshine floods the bathroom through the glass doors of the shower and bounces off the vanity wall instantly brightening the space.
A Glass Shower Enclosure That’s Easy to Maintain
The new shower is enclosed with ½ inch ultra-white (optically clear) glass with Guardian ShowerGuard coating, which makes cleaning a breeze since it protects against hard water stains. No more shower curtains that trap moisture and create mold – these glass shower doors are beautiful, durable, clean, and efficient.
The natural shine of the glass is accentuated by chrome hardware throughout the entire bathroom. We trimmed the glass surrounding the bench inside the enclosure, giving visual interest to this practical feature.
Glass Can Provide Privacy Where It’s Needed
The water closet in the bathroom continued the use of glass; but for privacy, we used ultra-white acid washed tempered glass for the wall and door, resulting in an opaque look. This continued the modern choice of glass but with appropriate functionality. We installed a chrome channel at the bottom and 2 clips at the top for stability. The doors of the water closet were supported by three wall hinges and featured a ladder pull handle, continuing the chrome look of the rest of the bathroom hardware.
Now You See It, Now You Don’t
At the double vanity, it appears that the wall is made of simple glass panels, but there’s a secret hiding behind that glass – there are two medicine cabinet doors in this wall stack, for which we used ¼” clear mirror with flat polished edges. With plenty of storage space without having traditional cabinets jut out from the wall, our hidden cabinet doors make the vanity area feel roomier.
Why Feature Glass in Your Modern Bathroom Design?
Overall, glass works well in a bathroom because the resulting look is high end and polished, yet easy to maintain while being bright and welcoming. While bathrooms are typically the smallest rooms in your home, they don’t have to feel dark and confining. Glass and mirrors instantly lighten and brighten a room!
Remember:
Glass doesn’t require special cleaners when using it as a backsplash against your vanity instead of tile and grout.
Choosing an opaque glass door closing off your toilet area is a more interesting, modern, and elegant look than a wood door.
Glass shower doors don’t collect and hold moisture like plastic and cloth shower curtains.
If you know it’s time to give your bathroom a much-needed face lift, think of using glass in new and clever ways to enhance the beauty and the efficiency. At Suburban Glass & Mirror, we’ve installed many residential glass features for bathrooms and our clients are thrilled with the results.
