When it comes to planning the design of your new construction home or renovation, it’s important to check off every detail. Considering how many times you and your family members will be using your staircase, you want to go beyond what looks “nice”. Safety is a huge factor in stair railings, but you can also choose materials to give it a bright and stunning look. For durability, maintenance, safety and elegance, glass is clearly the answer.
Our team at Suburban Glass has been installing glass railings and guardrails for businesses and homeowners throughout Bergen County for decades. We’re proud of our team and our work, and our clients can’t stop raving about the stunning results.
A Recent Glass Railing Project
In planning their renovation, homeowners in Tenafly wanted a clean, simple, yet sophisticated design for the railings in their staircase. They wanted the beauty and elegance of glass to create a modern and elegant look for the area. The homeowners’ contractor reached out to us to work on the design and installation of glass railings.
Laying the Proper Foundation
When you admire a stylish set of glass railings in the staircase of someone’s home, you think it’s simply a matter of measuring and cutting the glass. In reality, there are many tiny details that must be planned, measured and executed exactly correct so that it’s structurally sound as well as beautifully displayed.
A Project to Fit Your Budget
After meeting with the contractors to discuss the details of the customer’s vision, we began the project by providing a preliminary quote. We help our customers understand the expense and make sure it fits into their budget for the project.
When the cost is approved, we move on to the detailed planning phase. We work well with other teams, as there are several trades that would likely be involved with installing a glass railing. The project may include the services of a general contractor, a stair contractor, concrete contractor, a steel fabricator, and a framer.
A Process Starts with Safety
We worked in depth with the homeowner’s contractor to make sure the build out on the steps were up to code and could structurally support the installation of glass railings. These railings were mounted with matte black standoffs to keep a sleek and contemporary look. We used matte black aluminum handrails with a “through the glass” hand rail system.
The homeowner had chosen their preferred colors, so it was our mission to find the perfect hardware to bring their idea to life.
Measuring Results in Perfection
Getting the correct angles and measurements in a railing installation is time consuming and requires a professional team with years of experience. As experts in the glass industry, we know that the slightest mis-measure on an angle can make a drastic mistake when lining up with the stair line.
Once out of the planning stage, the area needs to be measured and products ordered. We partner with a set of preferred vendors to help minimize back orders when procuring the necessary products.
Ensuring the Railings Are Secure
Aside from their beauty, the purpose of glass railings is to keep people safe. This happens by ensuring anchor points are “solid” and all codes are met. Glass railing and glass guard rail building codes vary between the residential and commercial markets, so you can count on Suburban Glass to be aware and up to date on the details. Knowing the overall height, the handrail requirements, the cap rail requirements, and the type of glass for the application all leads to a successful installation.
Our knowledge, process, care, and experience when it comes to glass railings all adds up to a smooth upgrade of your home.
